The History of Haddington Farmers’ Market

Haddington Farmers' Market commenced on a sunny Saturday morning in April 2000 with a great variety of stalls, quality produce and crowds of visitors.

It was one of the first farmers’ markets to set up in Scotland, providing local farmers with an alternative route direct to customers.

The Market has grown, not only with its reputation for excellent produce and variety of stalls, but in its standing within the community of East Lothian and Scotland. It has been the launch pad for numerous businesses, many of whom have flourished, creating local jobs and boosting the local economy.

About the Market

The quality of the produce and range of stalls, of which there are up to 25, ensures Haddington Farmers' Market is a popular event, attracting shoppers from East Lothian and further afield, many of whom go on to spend an enjoyable day in Haddington, or on the coast, in the hills or in the countryside.

It is a great community attraction and excellent showcase for the best local and seasonal produce that you can obtain anywhere. Choose from bacon, sausages, beef, lamb, venison, eggs, fish, pate, charcuterie, handmade ferments, fresh vegetables, plants, crafts, honey, ice cream, cheese, beer, gin, liqueurs, home baking, bread, cakes, pies, ready meals, soap, juice, speciality mushrooms, Jersey cream and butter, chutney, flour, sea salt and gifts. The list is endless, the variety tremendous and very different from what you’ll find in a supermarket. It’s foodie heaven!

Working with the local community is important to Haddington Farmers' Market. Local musicians, Haddington Pipe Band, charities, chefs and other organisations participate in and enhance the experience of Haddington Farmers' Market by bringing their expertise and talent to add to the enjoyment and total experience of this friendly and inspiring event.

Our Ethos

Produce from Haddington Farmers' Market comes from small and local producers, who concentrate on quality, traditional methods, seasonality and flavour. We have up to 25 stallholders and shoppers can speak directly to the producer to find out how their food was made.

Only products produced by the farmer or stallholder, on their own premises, can be sold at the market. Products sourced from elsewhere are not permitted.

We endeavour not to duplicate produce, so that we offer the widest possible range.
